There’s a girl some where-
America, England, France. You choose-
Fighting for air.
The love of her life
Is not beside her right there.
He may be at basic training
Or fighting in the Middle East.
I’d say he’s brave, to say the least.
But this is the story a girl overlooked.
Often forgotten. Not recorded in history books.
She awakens in the morning,
Goes through her routine.
Sometimes fighting tears, not letting them loose.
This is the girl who you see watching the news,
Maybe reading or writing a letter,
Inwardly singing the blues.
She doesn’t always think she has the strength
To go to the next day.
While the man she loves is still away.
But her assumed weakness is not really there.
It’s vanished-Poof!-disappeared in the air.
She is not a wife, nor a sister or mom.
She is something else entirely
To that soldier away.
She is a girl with a different kind of strength.
She puts on a smile and lends a helping hand.
She is the girlfriend
Of a military man.
